Drupalcon video archiving (and streaming?)

Last year I videotaped and uploaded many of the Barcelona Drupalcon sessions, and once again I’m planning to help with video archiving at Drupalcon Boston.

Volunteers and equipment are needed! Videographers, video cameras and other equipment are needed if we’re going to cover all simultaneous sessions. Laptops are needed if we want to do live video streaming. Audio recording can also be useful if we don’t have enough video cameras. Comment here if you can help and the Drupalcon team will follow up with you.

Donate :) I setup a ChipIn to cover the cost of video tapes etc. Depending on the community’s generosity it could also help cover my travel costs to attend Drupalcon.

Update: Please signup for the audio/video meetup and rehearsal at 4 p.m. on Sunday!

I can bring a video camera

I can bring a video camera to be used for this — it’s nothing fancy, only consumer quality, but it’s available.

Cheers,

Bill

My buddy has a camera and tripod we’re already planning on bringing. Could be used for a few sessions probably, I’ll ask if he’s willing to share ;)

And for anyone interested, check this out and give us some feedback… drupal meets diggnation?

Camera

Yeah, I wouldn’t have any problem recording a few sessions. The camera is really nothing special but it gets the job done.

Volunteers

http://groups.drupal.org/node/8404

Great that we are getting volunteers - as I’ve mentioned in the above entry, we need to focus on audio and also digital devices - ie how quickly can we get footage to ftp?

The Drupalcon team will be providing some tripods, one of the main things to check may be whether you can connect your camera to the sound desk, whether you’ll require a proprietary cable or regular XLR or mini-jack.

I’m going to be adding the slides to videos (as the presenters are fantastic, but watching them hold a mic and gesticulate isn’t as valuable as seeing these) and titles etc. Should have details of the ftp for this in the next few days, in the meantime it would be great if you can add to the above page - perhaps add the equipment you can supply/output formats etc.

Thanks all for volunteering!

Thanks all for volunteering! We could use everyone’s help as there are 4 session rooms to cover. Video recording would be great but audio recording is probably most important.

The latest info I have from the AV company is that each room will have mics and a Mackie mixer you can plug in to for sound recording. The mixers will have RCA outputs, possibly other outputs available too. To work with this ideally your camera would have line-level inputs (unfortunately some camcorders only have mic-level input).

For sound-only recording it would be fine to plug a laptop into the mixer, no fancy AV gear really needed.

When will the recordings be available?

I’m stuck in “the old world” (aka “Yurop”), hoping to catch some of the sessions I’ll be missing. When will these be available online?

And how will they be distributed? BitTorrent might be a good idea..?

Thank you all for volunteering to do this!

Some audio and video is

Some audio and video is slowly being uploaded to archive.org, http://www.archive.org/search.php?query=DrupalCon%20Boston%202008

e.g. merlinofchaos’ session: http://www.archive.org/details/DrupalconBoston2008-Panels2AndNodequeue

By the way if anyone has material to contribute to these items on archive.org, let us know. We’re using one shared account to FTP files to archive.org

Original DV

Not sure if you were the guy that video-taped our session: What’s in a Theme: The power of enterprise level theming (http://boston2008.drupalcon.org/session/whats-theme-power-enterprise-lev...)?

If so - Is there any way we can purchase a copy of the original DV?
