I have been using Drupal for close to two years. I never heard of Drupal until I did some research on creating a platform for CameraPrices.com, where I needed to support multi-sites and possibly multi-languages, using one file source.
I spent hours and hours analyzing CMS’ like type MoveableType, Typo3, WordPress, Joomla/Mambo, pMachine and more. In the end, I fell in love with Drupal. Not because of the framework though, because of the community. One of the first things I did was
1) watch the number of new forum posts (for support) per day per CMS site.
2) looked over just about every module available, for Joomla/Mambo, Typo3 and Drupal
3) Testing a few installs to see how quick and painless/ful each CMS was.
4) try to test the overall strength of the community.
In the end Drupal came up as the fastest growing and strongest community (by the numbers), had most modules I needed, and darn easy install/maintain. And above all, was free. Some of the other CMS’ or their modules were not free.
2 years later, I am still in love with Drupal. I am hooked… I envy the growth WP has had and hope that many simple CMS users will find their way to Drupal before long.
What’s next? For me, I hope to convert my Drupal freelance services into have a reputable Drupal shop in the coming year; focusing on providing services to municipalities, universities, and organizations locally (West Lafayette, Indiana / Indianapolis).
I look forward to meeting you at Drupalcon!
