I am currently the Assistant Director of Communications and Web Technologies for the Harvard Stem Cell Institute. I spend most of my time building websites and collaboration tools for this fascinating organization, located above a Mexican restaurant.
When I was doing my undergraduate work at UConn, I lived in a house with three students seeking their masters in puppetry and a painter. As the only non-artist, my relationship with these women was one of mutual curiosity. The puppetry artists explained that their work was most rewarding because of the variety of skills necessary for a successful show: writing, acting, sculpture, painting, set construction, etc. At a time when I couldn’t decided whether to enter journalism school or pursue my PhD in virology, I was jealous of their success in finding a medium that rewarded their varied interests.
Today I am happier than I have ever been with my medium. I have found my puppetry. By working on websites, I can write, design, or code - and put both sides of my brain to use.
You can see some of my work and view my (very infrequent) blog posts at http://www.maureensmusings.com/
I’m a vegan who loves to cook, sew, embroider, crochet, knit, and collect things related to octopuses.
