A few months ago, the first time I have been to the US, I figured out on the border control that my phone does not work in the US at all. Not surprisingly my dual-band (900/1800 Mhz) phone which works perfectly around Europe is not US compatible. I am looking to buy a phone which would be able to roam in the US, and I was suggested to open up a topic here, so others also know and think about this. Looks like I need to buy a phone which supports 1900Mhz, or do I need a quad-band phone which also does 850Mhz?
Ps. Note to others: also make sure you buy a power plug converter at home, do not expect US shops to have these.
